The next stop in our journey was in Montespertoli. Montespertoli is a village in the Metropolitan City of Florence (Firenze) in the Italian region of Tuscany, located about 20 kilometers southwest of Florence. It is surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves, with stunning views.
The Airbnb we had reserved was off the beaten path at the end of a dirt road and driveway. It was a small, rustic house on a farm, located behind a locked gate. Our hosts were an amazing couple, who were very knowledgeable and kind, and eager to offer suggestions during our stay. The first evening they recommended a restaurant that was a short distance down the dirt road at the Equestrian Center. We were seated at an outdoor patio that was exactly what we expected from a restaurant in the Tuscany countryside. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the food was amazing. An evening that was perfect for our first night.
The next day we drove into Firenze to walk around the Piazza della Signoria and surrounding area. Although we had visited before, we still enjoyed seeing the architecture and statues in the piazza. We also did some souvenir shopping for family and walked the Ponte Vecchio.
The Ponte Vecchio is Firenze’s oldest bridge and has been in the city since 1345. It’s known for its beautiful architecture and jewelry shops, as well as being one of the few bridges in the world where locals still live. There is more gold jewelry here than I have ever seen in one place.
On our last day in Montespertoli, we took full advantage of the peaceful environment to relax. It was an absolutely wonderful day spent sitting outside enjoying only the sounds of nature and the beauty that surrounded us. It truly was the most relaxing part of our journey, and time we both needed.
We were off early the next day and very thankful to our hosts for their warm welcome. We hated to say goodbye to Tuscany and hopefully we can visit again someday.
