The Daily Grind
“Heigh
ho, heigh ho, it’s off to work we go.” We all know where this line comes from – our
childhood friends the seven dwarfs. And as they went to work they were whistling
the tune and all smiles; happy to be going to work.
Wouldn’t
it be great if we all felt this way as we embarked on our day; full of optimism
and looking forward to the task that lay ahead of us? It seems that so many
people that I talk with are not content with the work they do. It is simply a
means to an end; a way to support their families and pay the bills. Going
through the motions each day without feeling any joy in what they do.
I
know that nobody is going to be happy with their work every day, but I do know some
who have found what they love to do and made it their work. These are the ones
who look forward to their day. When they head out in the morning they know that
what lies ahead will lift their spirits – not drag them down. These are the
fortunate ones who found their passion and searched for the opportunity in that
field.
There
are others who dread going to work each day. They know that they will either be
bored to tears, absolutely hate what they have to do, or at a minimum feel unfulfilled.
Not a great way to start each day, and certainly not a positive image to
portray to your children. How can you send your children off each day with a
positive attitude if you don’t have one?
Obviously
not everyone will be able to have the ideal position that utilizes their
talents or passion in life. However, we should be able to find some contentment
with our work. If you are fortunate enough to work in an environment where you
are treated fairly and with respect, and have co-workers that can brighten your
day, then you should count your blessings. Some people don’t have this much
where they work.
We
should all figure out our passion, and try to find a position where we can
utilize it on a daily basis. If that can’t be done, then find an employer who
appreciates your contributions and provides a positive environment. And
remember, perhaps your purpose is to brighten the day of those around you.
