Coffee and Dessert - Baked Cinnamon Apples
Although we have been trying to minimize our intake of sweets, sometimes you just need to feed the sweet tooth before you go totally overboard. Today is one of those days where my sweet tooth is calling so I went looking for something to appease the need for sugar. With very little in the house to bake with I went to my always reliable Betty Crocker cookbook. With just a few ingredients I was able to make these Baked Cinnamon Apples. Simple and delicious they are sure to be a hit in your home.
Baked Cinnamon Apples
2-4 baking apples ( Rome, Golden Delicious, McIntosh or your favorite)
Brown Sugar
Cinnamon
Butter
1. Core the apples, and pare a 1-inch strip of skin from around the middle of each apple to prevent splitting.
2. Place apples upright in an ungreased baking pan. Put 1-2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 teaspoon margarine and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon in the center of each apple. Pour water (1/4-inch deep) into baking dish.
3. Bake uncovered in 375 degree oven until tender when pierced with a fork, (30 to 40 minutes). Time will vary depending on size and variety of apple. Spoon syrup in dish over apples several times during baking if desired.
Cool slightly and serve with whipped cream.
