The Things That I Would Do
As I sit and look out at a magnificent fall day in New England, my mind wanders to fun and creativity, and the many things I could do if I were retired.
There are so many people who I have had conversations with about retirement, and there are mixed reactions as to whether it is a positive or negative thing. I know there are those who do not want to retire as it has negative connotations for them, or they don't know what they will do with their time.
There are others who look at retirement as a start to a new chapter in their life. They may not know exactly what they will do in retirement, but do view it as a positive. They just aren't quite ready to take the plunge yet.
As for me - I look forward to retirement. Not only will it be the start of a new chapter, but also an exciting time where anything is possible. When I contemplate where I will start it is difficult to pick just one thing. There are so many to choose from, and even things that may seem like a chore become an event to anticipate.
All the family photos, that for more years than I can count, I have wanted to sort through and put together albums for my children. Just going through them will be a journey through life with my family and friends. The memories that will be brought forth will not only make me smile, but will bring remembrances of those that have been lost over the years.
Redecorating the house which there never has been the time for. Expanding the flower bed and building a stone patio in the back yard. Cooking and baking - trying all those recipes that I have saved for years.
Traveling as much as possible. So many places to see and things to do. If I am lucky I will be able to accomplish half of the list.
Writing, writing and writing. This blog has opened up a door for my writing, which extended into the children's stories I'm writing. And in the back of my mind (and saved on a flash drive) are not only more ideas for children's stories, but also a couple of books that are just beginning to form.
Most important - spending as much time as possible with family and friends. Entertaining and making memories, helping them when they need it, but always enjoying each other.
So here's to continued good health and looking forward to retirement!
