A Sport for Each Season and Championships

Like millions of other people I love watching sports. Football is my favorite and behind that baseball, basketball, then hockey. There are many others, but today I address the big four. Each one has its own season, and as one begins, the previous one should be coming to an end.

Here we are at the end of October and the World Series has just ended. Baseball should have been done and over by the time football started in September. Hockey season has begun, and we are only half way through football season. And then there is basketball - which falls into both the fall and winter season.

I know that these sports will overlap to some degree, but they each should have their own block of time, where they are not competing with one another for viewers. This would be a win for the sport and for the fans. Unfortunately much of it has to do with money for owners and players, and making more of it with longer seasons.

Then there are the championships and how the teams get there. I remember many years ago, the teams that got to the championships were the ones who won the most games. Now they have come up with formulas that can place a team in the championship when they have not won the most games. Maybe others understand all this, but to me it is confusing to say the least. In baseball they talk about a team being a game and a half behind. How can you be half a game behind? You play an entire game - not half a game.

Maybe we could have baseball run from May to September; football from September to January; basketball from November to March; then hockey from December to April. They would overlap a bit, but not like they do now. Not sure how well that would work for the owners and players, but the fans would see more of the sports they enjoy so much.

As for the championships - I say let the teams that win the most games be the ones who make it to the championship games at the end of the season. If you have worked hard as a team to be winners, then you should get a chance for the big prize.

Just saying.................what's fair is fair.
