Vacation

Vacations are great, and we had a wonderful week off mid July. However, I think we need a vacation to recoup from our vacation. Sometimes you return and are exhausted from all the fun.

Our week off we went from NH to Montreal, back to NH, to Martha's Vineyard, back to NH, to Derby Line, VT and finally back to NH. All of our travels were during one of the hottest weeks of the summer, and we did a lot of walking. The up side of this - great food and no weight gain.

We started off in Montreal - a great city and our second trip there. We did a tour of the city (fortunately on an air conditioned bus), walked all around old Montreal and downtown and had some wonderful meals. One meal in particular was unique and served in a relaxing atmosphere. They started us off with a cold carrot-curry soup with fresh baked bread and butter, followed by a cheese board with 2 cheeses, thinly sliced apples, grapes, walnuts and thin crispy bread. Before the main course we were served a small scoop of lemon sorbet covered with vodka and garnished with sugared lemon zest and a mint leaf  - amazing! We then had the main course - Scallops wrapped in Prosciutto for me & Fillet Mignon for him. If you get to Montreal check out O'Thyme.

Our next mini trip was to Oak Bluffs in Martha's Vineyard. We put the Harley on a trailer to Woods Hole and then on to Martha's Vineyard via the ferry. Our stay was at the Pequot Hotel which was absolutely wonderful. One block from the beach and our room was very quaint, nicely decorated, private bath and no TV. Each morning they served a breakfast that included muffins, bagels, english muffins, hard boiled eggs, freshly cooked oatmeal with several topping options, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice & coffee. Mid afternoon you would find lemonade, iced tea and freshly baked cookies which you could enjoy on the large front porch in the shaded rocking chairs just taking in the beauty and peace.

We took a few hours one morning and rode the Harley around to take in the sites on the island. It was so nice to be able to take in the sights, sounds and smells from the bike. Not something that you get from inside a car. Of course we also did the walk down the little main street of Oak Bluffs for the obligatory souvenir shopping for my children & grandchildren. The Pequot Hotel will be on our places to go again and we highly recommended it to anyone planning a trip to the Vineyard.

So - now on to our last little trip. The final destination was to Derby Line, VT (on the Canadian border - literally) to attend a surprise birthday party for a very dear friend. It was a day trip and the shortest distance we traveled, and we would not have missed it for the world. He was truly surprised and very touched that so many would travel to celebrate with him. I have known these friends for over 30 years and they are absolutely wonderful people. The kind of people who take you in and embrace you like you are part of their family As I told him - I could not imagine being anywhere else.

So - we have been back home for a week and may finally be getting to the point where we have recuperated from all the fun. About ready to start thinking about the mini trip to Block Island in September.

We are truly blessed to have these opportunities and also to have so many wonderful friends in our life.
