Never Take Friends for Granted
Over the years many friends come in and out of our lives. Some come, stay a while and then they are gone never to be seen again. They had a reason for being in your life - sometimes we know - sometimes we do not. At least not until later in life. Others come in and out and back in again, and there is always a reason that they do. There is an unshakable connection that brings you back together.
I can count my good friends on less than two hands, but they are lifetime friends that I would always go to if they needed me. And I know that I can count on them. Even if we have not seen each other for many years we can come back together and it is like it was just yesterday that we spent time catching up on life.
Unfortunately, sometimes in life we never have the opportunity to come back together. Last year I found out that a good friend from high school had passed away from pancreatic cancer. We had been out of touch for many years and I had no idea she had been diagnosed with this illness. When I found out about her death it was heart breaking. I was saddened by her passing and also by the fact that over the years I had not taken time to keep in touch. That I was not able to reconnect and spend some time with her. I will always regret this.
Recently I was told that another high school friend has not been doing well. Another friend I have not seen in many years. A friend that I used to spend many hours with hanging out, partying and sharing our lives. We have occasionally come together over the years, but we were both busy with our lives and raising children, and have not stayed in touch. I have found her on Face book and know that I will take the time to reconnect. Someone who I was so close to in high school - someone I need to see again.
We cannot take these friendships for granted. We need to connect when we can and cherish every moment. I will remind myself of this each day as I do not want to have any more regrets.
