Our Garden
We have been waiting patiently since spring for our garden to get to this point. From the planting, weeding and watering every day to stringing up the peas and guiding the beans to climb the poles up towards the sky. Nurturing each plant in hopes it will at some point in the summer produce those wonderful fresh vegetables for our table. Praying the bugs and animals will not eat before we do.
This week we have had fresh peas, cucumbers, and also zucchini and green peppers sauteed with onions, fresh basil & oregano. I am not sure what is better - the smell of these wonderful things as they are cooked or the flavor as we savor each bite.
We share the work of our garden - he does the planting, weeding & watering and I harvest and cook the wonderful bounty. Now I know it may seem I get the better end of this deal, but I tend to my flower garden so I guess it all evens out. However these tasks are divided we both have a great appreciation for the outcome. It is such a joy to see all the hard work bring so much beauty to observe each day along with great food to our table.
So we wait and anticipate the things to come - tomatoes, eggplant, green beans, and summer squash. All of these are so close that you can almost taste them and have recipes ready to go. It does not get much better than this!
