El Puerto De Santa Maria, Spain

After two weeks of traveling through Italy, and spending precious time with family, we would be taking the last week to relax and see a bit of Spain. Warm, breezy and beautiful, El Puerto De Santa Maria would a wonderful place to spend some time alone.

On our way to El Puerto De Santa Maria, I was quite taken with the countryside along the highway. Field after field of Sunflowers were a beautiful sight. Some not yet blossoming, others in full bloom and now and then fields of flowers fading away. Colorful flowering bushes separated the north and south lanes of the highway which made for a calm and peaceful ride.

Our Airbnb had a wonderful outdoor patio with a view of the coast, and we spent many hours relaxing and enjoying the view. There was a pool at the complex and we were surprised how cool the water was considering the hot temperatures (90 and above) in Spain. We were within walking distance to the main street along the waterway and took some time to explore a bit and enjoy some great food during our stay.

We took one day to ride over to the Navy base in Rota. Many years ago, when he was in the Navy, he spent time there and has fond memories. Of course, as with all of our memories, things are never as we remember them. The town of Rota used to be much smaller but has grown into a large tourist town on the Atlantic Ocean. It is absolutely beautiful, and unfortunately very crowded, so we were unable to even find parking to walk around. In spite of this, it was a nice day, and we enjoyed the ride.

After a few days of rest and relaxation, we said goodbye to El Puerto De Santa Maria. Next stop Seville for two nights before heading home.

Palma Nova and Palma de Mallorca, Spain

As we were planning our trip to Italy, he mentioned that he would like to go to Spain for our next big vacation. When he was in the Navy, he had spent time there and always wanted to go back. Considering the cost of airline tickets, I suggested we incorporate it into this trip and spend the last week there. After all, three weeks away makes for an amazing trip. After landing in Palma, de Mallorca, we picked up our rental vehicle to make the short trip to Palma Nova. We took some time to settle in and relax before heading out for dinner. We took a short walk to check out the area and find somewhere to eat. We were fortunate that there was an Indian restaurant close by and the food was delicious. An enjoyable meal, listening to the sound of many languages blending together, and taking in the reality that we were on an island in Spain.
