Enjoy the Distractions
I have always been one that could stay on task in spite of what may be swirling around me. It was easy to remain focused, as if I were wearing blinders.
That razor-sharp focus does not seem to be as on point these days. It could be due to all that's going on in the world today, but I believe it's much more than that.
Age certainly plays a role, because when we reach a certain age there are other "fun" things we would rather do. Working and keeping up with daily chores at home are no longer at the top of our list, and we tend to lose interest more rapidly.
Our priorities change as we evolve over the years and become more aware of what truly matters. The things that excite and engage us may be entirely different than earlier in life. What once was an organized and analytical mind may now be floating in a pool of creativity. Our mind may be filled with stories to tell, or we get lost in looking at nature and drop everything to take a picture.
Some days it doesn't take much to distract us; birds flying by, chipmunks running around the yard, Loons diving under water for food, or winds blowing across the lake. Although we can stay on task to complete things, the truth is we don't really care if one of these distractions comes along.
There are days life will demand we engage and be productive, and we will focus and complete our tasks. However, we need to remember that once in a while we need to give ourselves permission to enjoy the distractions and the peace they can bring.
