Busy Hands Can Clear the Mind
One day it's warm and spring like, and then the next it's rain, or a mix of snow/sleet and cold. Early spring is very unpredictable, and our moods can go up and down with it. We're all ready for sunshine, warmth and time outside.
God knows things have been unsettled and unnerving lately. Just keeping ourselves on an even keel has been a challenge, and too much idle time can certainly wreak havoc on our psyche. We all must find a way stay in the right frame of mind.
Over the years I have come to realize that the best way for me to remain upbeat is to clear my mind. The tasks that will do this all include physical activity; things that keep my hands busy. There is something about working with your hands that allows the stress in your mind to flow out through your fingers.
On the rainy and cold days, I do inside work, and have begun to think about tackling some of the spring cleaning. Window washing will have to wait for nicer days, but there is much more that can be done until then. Of course, in the last few years I thought that I didn't have time for spring cleaning but have discovered that it was more that I didn't want to.
Cooking and baking are also great at helping to clear the mind. Trying a new recipe or creating one of your own can be therapeutic. It's not just the work, or the aromas wafting through the house, but creating something for others to enjoy that can produce a euphoric feeling.
My favorite task to clear the mind is working outside in the sunshine. I cherish every moment of the warm spring days when I can get into the dirt to prepare for planting. Little things like setting up the bird bath, hanging the wind chimes, and setting the patio furniture out gives hope for what's to come, and brings up memories from the previous season that warms the soul.
Whatever it is that helps to clear your mind should become a priority. It's much easier to have a positive outlook if your mind is not filled with the noise and negativity buzzing around you each day.
Busy hands can clear the mind, which leads to good health and a positive outlook.
