Weddings - Better Small and Intimate
A wedding is a ceremony where two people are united in marriage, and a public proclamation is made by an authority figure of this marriage. It shows those attending that these two people are making a commitment to one another.
I know many of us have seen weddings large and small. And although the big weddings I have been to were nice, some of the most beautiful ones I have attended were small and intimate.
Anyone who watches TV has seen the programs that show big extravagant weddings. The ones where brides try to out do one another with the extremely outrageous locations, decorations and food. The destination wedding seems to be the thing today. What I want to know is this; how many people do you know that could not only take the time, but afford to go to one of these? Certainly not on my budget, and even if I could, I'm not sure I would spend the money.
Then there are the shows where brides are looking for their gown. Can you say ridiculous? So many are expecting their family to pay thousands of dollars on a dress they will wear for one day and never put on again. All in an effort to look like a princess from the movies. Too often the dress takes center stage and the bride is lost behind it, defeating her intent.
I think these young people need to be realistic and think long and hard about their wedding. Are they getting married to make a commitment, or to put on a show? If they truly want to proclaim to family and friends their love for one another, then keep things small and intimate. This can be far more beautiful, and more meaningful, than an extravagant wedding and reception.
And if your family has money that could fund a large wedding, perhaps it would be better spent as a gift towards the purchase of a home. And isn't that a much better investment in your future? Something you will live in for years, not something you will wear for a day or a party for a few hours.
Small, simple and intimate - far more romantic and meaningful.
