The Joy of Grandchildren
Every time we are with our grandchildren I am reminded of how fortunate I am. Being a grandparent is even better than being a parent because you don't have the 24/7 worry. Plus, we have lived long enough to know what's important, and what to let go of, allowing us to enjoy these times even more.
This past weekend we were going to take our grandchildren to a big corn maze - a great fall activity that they all could enjoy. Unfortunately the weather decided to squash that idea. So after lunch we decided to take them bowling which ended up being a lot of fun. The youngest had never been bowling, but she did very well for a first time bowler and she had a great time. As each one waited for their turn, they had difficulty sitting in one spot and were dancing and spinning around. Carefree with no worries - just enjoying the moment.
The next day we went to watch my grandson play his last football game of the season. He is in Junior High and this is his first year of full contact football. What great fun watching these young players - some eager to jump in and tackle, while others were a bit more apprehensive. Listening to his sister and cousin chanting "Anthony, Anthony, Anthony". I haven't been to a Junior High game in years and it was such fun to watch and cheer them on. His team won the game, and he was very pleased we were there to see it.
There is nothing better than the innocent joy of children. Their lighthearted play and laughter fills your heart with happiness, and brings a smile to your face. A child's laughter is so easy, effortless and contagious. It is something that will ease any stress you may have and something you want to hear often.
Wouldn't it be great if we all could feel that innocent joy of childhood again? To laugh easily and often, and to find wonder as we experience new things. I think the solution is to spend as much time as possible with them, take them to experience new things, and share in their laughter.
