I Hope Winter Passes This Quickly

It seems like with the blink of an eye the end of summer has arrived. Teachers are back in school and the kids will be joining them any day. In two weeks we will be celebrating Labor Day which signals the end of the season.

My garden managed to produce fresh vegetables in spite of the lack of time I had to tend to it. Now it resembles a forgotten friend getting ready to leave, and as much as I love my garden, I am ready to let it go. Until then we will enjoy what she has left to give.

Time has seemed to fly by even faster than last year. Mainly because we have had a very full schedule. Family and friends have come to visit and enjoy time on the lake. Excursions to the ocean with grandchildren, family cookouts, road trips to Maine and Vermont, and fun times in Boston for dinner in the North End and a Red Sox game.

Still to come are two weekends with grandchildren (they each get their own time with us), a trip to North Conway for a cookout with his girls, and a graduation in Boston (my sister has earned her Doctorate). Friends will be visiting before they think of heading south for the winter (wish I could go with them). And we will end in mid October by taking all three grandchildren to Jay Peak Resort Indoor Water Park for a weekend (God give us strength).

I wouldn't give up any of this in spite of the hectic pace. All of these wonderful memories will warm my soul and soften the cold winter months, which never seem to go by as fast. I only wish there were many more warm weekends to fill with fun activities.

I am not a winter girl as I don't like the cold. If we could have a few snow storms to enjoy the pristine white glistening in the sun, and then have the winter move on, I would be quite happy. As pretty as the fresh fallen snow is as it sits in the trees, it does not need to linger for quite so long.

So I will watch as summer winds down and enjoy the crisp, sunny days and cool nights of fall for as long as I can. Then I will pray for the months to fly by so we may watch as spring awakens once again.
