On Being Blessed (A Reminder to Myself)
I just spent two wonderful days with my daughter and granddaughter. Precious moments that leave me with great memories. Now that they have gone home, I am feeling very tired. Tired like I have no energy, tired of winter with a big storm predicted in 2 days, tired of household chores, etc., etc. In my quest to determine what was on my mind today, I found this blog which I shared in 2012. It was a sign - a gentle reminder to myself - to be ever so thankful for my life. So once again I will share my thoughts on being blessed:
Every day I remind myself how truly blessed I am. When I wake up and get out of bed the first thing I see from my window is a view of the lake. On a great day the sun is sparkling on the water like diamonds, but even on the gray days it is a wonderful sight to behold, for even the gray days have their own unique beauty. There is something about being on the water that can bring such peace to your soul.
I am blessed to have a great relationship with a man who is kind and good natured. To have a wonderful family that I can share memories with and always count on. Great children who love me and turn to me for advice, and consider me not only their mother but their friend. The most amazing and beautiful grandchildren that anyone could wish for - they always bring a smile to my face and fill my heart with joy. And very dear friends who are always there to share life's ups and downs.
I am not saying that there are not difficult times, or times that I do not get down. That is just a part of every day life. We all have our own struggles we must get through but as they say "those things that do not break us only make us stronger". The tough times make us keenly aware of how much the good times need to be appreciated. As I have told my children for many years - life is mostly routine and we have to make the best of that, but if you work hard you will find from time to time you get to have some fun along the way. You have to enjoy every moment of fun you get.
So, on those tough days I take the time to sit very quietly, look out at the lake and let the peace seep into my soul. Remind myself what a great life I have and how all of these wonderful relationships enrich my life and make me successful. Then I tell myself again how truly blessed I am.
