Weight Loss - There is No Magic Bullet

It is amazing to see all the ads on television that claim you can lose weight with a pill or powder and no changes to your diet or exercise. Others will give you weight loss success while you order their pre-packaged foods, but what happens when you go back to reality and fixing your own meals at home? There is that old expression that" if something seems too good to be true then it probably is".

Losing weight is no easy task, especially with the added stress in our lives today. The only way to do it, and keep the weight off, is to change your lifestyle. You have to learn to eat the right foods in the right quantities, and also add exercise to your routine. You can have the foods you love like sweets & chips, but not all the time. Even a small change to start can get you on the road to weight loss success, and as you adjust to that change it becomes routine and easier. Then you move forward making changes until you are eating right and exercising regularly. The exercise can make a big difference in your stress level also which helps with weight loss.

As a woman over 50 I know too well how easy it is to put weight on, and how much harder it is after 50 to take it off. I started on my weight loss journey over a year ago and even with exercise was not making much progress. I thought I was eating right until one day I discovered My Fitness Pal.com. This is a free online site where you can track your food intake and exercise (they have a huge database to search). As you add foods and exercise daily they become part of your own personal database that you can pick from and enter each day. I found that what I had been eating was still far more food than I could eat and expect to lose weight. I made the adjustments I needed to and after 3 months lost 19 pounds. I have not felt that I have been deprived, and have not eaten all the right things every day. It has made it much easier for me to make the adjustments I need to when I get off track, and will be beneficial to maintain the weight loss.

Lifestyle changes - this is what it takes for anyone to be successful on this journey. It does not have to be a real painful process - if it is then you will not succeed. Just take small steps and eventually they become big changes you have incorporated into your life. With that you will reach your goals and success. What a great feeling that is!!
