If I Won the Lottery
Just like so many of us I do think about what I would do if I ever won the Lottery. That big jackpot - the one that will make sure you are set for life. I know that one of the first things I would do is make sure that my children have a mortgage free home and a good vehicle without a loan. Then I would ask what they have always wanted to do and set them up so they would be able to make a living at something they love to do.
Of course the next step would be to ensure that my grandchildren have the funds to attend college. With their college degree they will hopefully be able to follow their dreams. I am optimistic that our country will recuperate and allow them the opportunity to do this.
We would finally do all the traveling that we talk about and dream about. Maybe I would even make sure he has his place in Montana (of course after I have my place in Myrtle Beach). Live a life where I can spend as much time with my children, grandchildren, family and friends and treat them to special things along the way.
Having said all that there are things I want to do to help our country prosper, and programs I would love to set up to teach young people the basic skills they need to take care of themselves and a home.
I would look for the absolute best minds in the alternative energy fields and have them figure out how to perfect and produce cost effective alternative energy sources. Then we could open up facilities in different parts of the country for production - giving jobs to as many people as we can. If we could get a financially feasible energy source to businesses and individuals we would be able to have less dependence on oil.
I would establish a pilot program in a few states where the schools are given the funding to teach young children the real basics of life. How to budget money (including saving), balancing a checkbook, cooking nutritious meals (make a menu & a grocery list from that menu), take care of a home, how to give back to your community. There are teenagers who are already parents - we could offer parenting classes for them to ensure they have the skills needed to raise happy, healthy children. Hopefully this program would flourish so it could eventually be established in every state. Teaching all of these things may ensure that future generations have the skills they need to succeed and have a good life free from a mountain of debt.
Find colleges doing the best medical research and contribute to help them work towards finding cures for Cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and many other diseases.
So many things that need to be accomplished. For now I guess I will continue to imagine what it would be like to be the BIG winner. As they say - all you need is a dollar and a dream (although now it is $2 and a dream). And everyone needs a dream.
