Faith, Hope Love and Prayer

Watching the news today often brings much disappointment and despair as I see events taking place in this country, and around the world. So much hatred, or mean spiritedness, seems to have taken over our society. People somehow feel they have the right to say whatever they are thinking without taking time to think through how it sounds. The words go directly from their head to their mouth without stopping at a filter.

All of this sets us up for a world where nobody cares about their friends, neighbors or the strangers they encounter each day. Perhaps this is exactly what our world leaders are hoping for. If people are not paying attention to what they are doing, then it will enable them to do exactly as they please without thinking of the consequences for their citizens. There are times that I'm glad I won't be around in 30 years, when what seems inevitable happens from events being put into motion now.

At times the fear and sadness in my heart, for my children and grandchildren, almost makes me drop to my knees. The worry that I carry these days for the future they may face is a heavy weight. It could consume me if I allowed it to, but then I remind myself that they win if I do so.

Instead, I choose to look for the good that is happening every day in our communities around the world. There are so many kind, caring and giving people doing wonderful things to help others. We need to share these as much as possible when we see them happening, and hope that this goodwill can spread more quickly than the negative.

As a gentle reminder I share this:

"If I shall speak with every human and Angelic language and have no love in me, I shall be clanging brass or a noise-making cymbal. And if I have prophecy, and I know all mysteries and all knowledge and if I have all faith so that I may remove mountains, and I have no love in me, I would be nothing. And if I should feed everything that I have to the poor, and if I hand over my body to be burned up and I have no love in me, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and sweet; love does not envy; love is not upset neither puffed up. Love does not commit what is shameful, neither does it seek its own; it is not provoked, neither does it entertain evil thoughts, rejoices not in evil, but rejoices in the truth, endures all things, believes all things, hopes all, bears all.

Love never fails; for prophecies shall cease, tongues shall be silenced and knowledge will be nothing; For we know partially and we prophecy partially; but when perfection shall come, then that which is partial shall be nothing. When I was a child, I was speaking as a child, I was led as a child, I was thinking as a child, but when I became a man, I ceased these childish things. Now we see as in a mirror, in an allegory, but then face-to-face. Now I know partially, but then I shall know as I am known. For there are these three things that endure: faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love" ~Paul: 1 Corinthians 13~

Without faith, hope, love, and prayer, we have nothing. And with all of these, we can accomplish great things. We are worth fighting for, but not with weapons or hateful words; we fight with caring, kindness and giving. These actions are contagious, and can heal even the most jaded of hearts.
