Make Changes Peacefully

We all would love to live in a country where our leaders did exactly as we wanted; where everything is as we want it to be. However, we also know that is not a reasonable expectation. What they need to do for their citizens is to ensure things are as fair as possible for everyone. They need to learn the true art of compromise.

With this art of compromise slipping away in today's political environment, it's easy to see where people are angry or upset. However, in an effort to protest, many are resorting to using their anger to incite violence; as if that will force the change they are looking for. Anyone that thinks logically about this, knows that all it will create is more anger, hatred and violence. I have to wonder where they see a recovery at the end of this tunnel? It's nothing but a downward spiral to nowhere; to a world that none of us would want to live in.

I find it alarming when the news portrays images of the unpeaceful protests going on all around the world. Seeing the angry and hate fueled crowds creating an environment that leads to nothing but injury, or worse, to those around them. Harming their fellow countrymen and destroying their cities and towns; as if this will create a better government, more fairness or compromise, for their country. Do they truly believe that they will recover from such violence and create a better society?

I, as well as anyone, have my own opinions and beliefs regarding how I would like to see things; any engaged member of society does. However, I also know that the only way to make effective change is through peaceful protest. It will do us no good to spread hate speech, or to thrust violence upon, our own countrymen. If we look around to all that has transpired in the last several years we can see where that has gotten us - nowhere. If anything we are in a more dangerous and volatile situation than we have been for many decades.

It's time to take responsibility and ensure that the protesting that is done will create a better world. We cannot tolerate the violent protests any longer, or we are as implicit in what happens in the end as the angry violent protestors. We cannot sit back and cry in anguish about what is happening in our countries and do nothing about it.

We also must demand more from our "leaders" - they are not doing their jobs, but are only catering to their own self-serving agenda. We have given them too much power over us, and it's time to take that power back.

This needs to be done in peaceful protest, and in the ballot boxes around the world. We cannot allow them to intimidate us into non-action. In the words of John F. Kennedy:

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

We cannot be complacent and accept the violent protests any longer. We all know we are much better than this.
