Offended and Embarrassed
Anyone who follows my blog knows that I don’t
do religion and politics – they are very personal and we all are entitled to
our beliefs and opinions. This will be one of the extremely rare times that I
talk about politics. As you will soon see it will not be in support of, or
against, any candidate.
A friend recently commented on the
negative political climate in America, and she was right. All you have to do is
listen to radio or TV ads to hear it. As an American I am both offended and
embarrassed, and can only imagine how the rest of the world views our political
arena.
I am offended by the political candidates
for the following reasons:
- The way they treat us insults our intelligence.
- They think we are naïve enough to believe anything they say.
- They try to badger us into thinking what they think.
- The endless calls coming into my home or to my cell phone, which interrupt my dinner or quiet moments after work. (Which I don’t answer.)
- For insinuating that we are unintelligent if we belong to a political party other than the one they belong to.
I am embarrassed by the political
candidates for:
- The mean spirited way they have been treating one another, and the personal attacks which have nothing to do with politics.
- Spreading hatred and fear to try and get ahead of the rest.
- For the political ads, which take a small piece of what their opponent has said out of context, in order to make them appear as if they are against America or Americans.
- For being so rigidly tied to their political party that they can’t look at what would be best for the majority of our country.
- For suggesting that anyone running from the “other” party is unintelligent or against America.
If they think that the best way to win is
by saying negative things about their opponents, they are wrong. The more they
do this, the more they appear to be the bully on the school playground. What a
bad example they are setting for our children.
I know that the majority of Americans
would find it refreshing to see the candidates simply tell us what they intend
to do for our country if elected, and how they intend to do it (a solid and
sensible plan to get there). We are intelligent enough to know when someone
puts forth a realistic plan vs talking around the subject. We don’t need smoke
and mirrors.
These are the people who want to be the
next President and leader of our country. If they want us, and the rest of the world to take
them seriously, then they need to start acting like they could be the next leader.
