Water Park Fun
Last weekend we had the annual overnight trip with our grandchildren. They are 5, 7 and 12 so you can imagine the energy level needed to keep up with them.
This year we went to the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Water Park in Queensbury, NY. In the past we have taken them somewhere that allowed us to have them spend the night at our home. This was their first overnight in a hotel. Exciting event for them!
The lodge is very large and not only has the indoor water park, but also an arcade, restaurants, gift shop and more. And if you visit in warmer weather it is adjacent to the Great Escape Amusement Park.
We arrived in the morning, and although we could not check in to our room just then, the water park was open. It was hard to contain their excitement while they changed into bathing suits and waited for us. From that point on there was no stopping them.
We spent a couple hours trying many of the water slides and going around the Lazy River. Natalie (the youngest) had as much fun splashing in the shallow water of the Lazy River and turning water spouts on and off as much as she liked the small water slides. Even though she had on a life vest she didn't quite dare to take a tube around the river so she had me walk her around. When the water was too deep for her to touch bottom I had to lift her and carry her to the next shallow spot. Talk about a workout!
At 12, Anthony enjoyed trying everything more than once - except for the surfing. He wasn't quite sure he wanted to do that. At one point he did have a young girl his age following him around the river - oh the fun begins!
Emily is 7 and she did try the surfing. She was able to get up on the board momentarily, but decided that was enough for her. She had great fun running from slide to slide, and giving her brother a hard time on the tubes in the river.
We got them to stop long enough for lunch, and then they were ready for more. By the time we went to check in we had spent five hours in the water - can you say soggy??
After going to our room and getting settled, Nanu decided it was time to relax. He turned on the TV and couldn't understand why they wouldn't lay on the beds and rest. Really?? I finally let him know that he was delusional if he thought these three children could be contained in hotel room and be calm and quiet. So, I pulled them together and we went to the arcade for an hour or so while Nanu had quiet.
We went back to the room and rounded up Nanu for dinner. Not quite sure at this point who was more worn out - the kids or us. It was rather a quiet meal, once they were situated and the food arrived, considering their were three children at the table.
We were all in bed early and I turned on NCIS since I knew it would not hold their interest for long. Every now and then they would ask me a question and in a very short time they were all sleeping.
Sunday morning I fed them the "breakfast of champions" as Nanu calls it - donuts and cinnamon buns. We got them all through the shower, packed and on the road by nine. We love them with all our heart, but were ready to be home for some quiet time.
Another great adventure that will give them memories to last a lifetime. I wouldn't miss these precious moments for anything. Now - what will we do next year?
