Wake Up Fashion Industry

A large segment of the female population does not seem to exist when it comes to fashion. If you are young there are numerous items to choose from. So much that it is difficult to make a decision on what to purchase sometimes.

However, if you are over the age of 50 it can be a monumental chore to find attractive and stylish clothing that fits well and is appropriate. Let's face it, our bodies change after 50, and clothing made for a youthful body doesn't fit well.

Now I know there are many women in their 50's or older who think it's fine to wear what a younger woman would wear. I'm not one of them - just because you are in good physical condition it doesn't mean you should dress like a young woman. There does come a point where skin tight clothing, an abundance of cleavage and mini skirts do not look well no matter what shape you are in. What comes to my mind is what would my children think if they saw me in it? Just not appropriate after a certain age.

We all like to look our best or even a bit sexy at times, and there is a tasteful way to do so. There are just not enough designers making clothing for this age group. Choices are slim to none and what is available is often cost prohibitive to the average woman.

We need to challenge the fashion industry and demand they not ignore us. Our expectations can drive designers to take a fresh look at what they are doing. Why they would want to dismiss such a large market is a mystery. The purchasing power of the number of women in this age group could be a big boost to their bottom line.

So wake up fashion designers! Start producing some attractive clothing that we baby boomer women would want to wear and can afford.
