Striving for Self Actualization

Making a living and loving what you do to make a living are not the same thing. We all need money to survive, but how we make that money is not always what makes us happy. Or at least it is not what fulfills our dreams and desires. I tell my children and grandchildren that if they can find the one thing they have a passion for, and can make money doing it, then it will never seem like work.

Most of us spend our lives working to support our family and pay the bills. We may not dislike what we do, but it also is not our passion. When we are young and raising our children we get so caught up in the day to day that we don't take the time to figure out what our passion is. This is unfortunate since in the end not only are we short changing ourselves, but also our children. Perhaps if we encourage them to do what we may not have done, it could make a difference in their life and maybe touch many others in the process.

I did some writing when I was younger, but over the years let it fall by the way side. Seemed that there were more important things to do or at least I thought so. In the last two to three years I have found my voice again and it has been liberating and fulfilling in so many ways. It has inspired me to tap into my creative side and now I am striving to reach self actualization by making a living with my writing. My first children's book will be available by late September (with two others to follow), and it has been an exciting process as I watch illustrations start to come to life. The stories are based on my grandchildren and I can't wait to share with them.

My second creative endeavor has been offering some of my photos as prints on Amazon. They are prints of Mother Nature  - New England Scenery.

Taking the photos was for my own enjoyment and pleasure, but I was encouraged by a good friend to share them. Bringing this together has been great fun and perhaps others will enjoy the beauty of these photos.

So...I am striving to reach self actualization. Nothing would give me greater joy than to make a living with my writing and photos. In the end I may never be rich or famous, but I will have given it my best shot and had the time of my life doing what I love. It doesn't get any better than that!
