We Need More Good Guys

We don't need more "Reality" programs that show the worst of people. They are not reality - they are a stage for those who want to exploit themselves for 15 minutes of "fame" and money. I often wonder if they are aware how degrading the programming is. I also wonder why people enjoy watching them so much. I don't know about you, but I can have enough drama in my own life, so I don't need to be a voyeur in someone else's. This latest fad cannot pass by soon enough for me.

What we need are more of the good guys. Men, and women, like Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Seeley Booth, Sheriff Longmire, Captain Sharon Raider, Detective Kate Beckett and so many others. These characters are more "real" than those presented in reality programming. They are not perfect by any means - they have their flaws and struggle with them at times. However they have the one fundamental character trait that is so important. They believe in living honorably and doing the right thing. They also believe in being good citizens in their community and country. A life of integrity which is not, and should not, be a fad.

These characters make me feel good when I watch them each week. They are people that I would feel honored to spend time with and call a friend. They are also the type of people I want my children and grandchildren to look up to and aspire to be like.

You can call me old fashioned or unrealistic, but I know these people of integrity exist in our communities. We see them every day even if we are not aware at that moment. They are parents, teachers, police officers, fire fighters, doctors, nurses, students and so many others doing things with integrity. Knowing that it is the right way to live - just like my favorite characters I watch each week. Give us more of the good guys - we need them in our lives.
