Cruising to the Coast

"Collidin' with the very air she breathes" - Neil Young's Unknown Legend

Saturday we took our first motorcycle ride of the season together over to the coast. We didn't take the highway or highly traveled roads, just a leisurely cruise along back country roads. The half cool/half warm breeze blowing across our faces.

It was a spectacular late spring day full of sunshine and warmth. The sky was a brilliant shade of blue with puffy cotton ball clouds scattered here and there. The feeling of riding is hard to describe if you have never experienced it. The exhilaration of nothing coming between you and Mother Nature frees your spirit and soul.

Traveling east along Route 108 I let my mind wander and take in the beauty of old homes, lazy rivers and sunshine peeking through the trees in the woods.  From time to time closing my eyes and breathing in the aromas of fresh cut grass, the perfume of flowers in bloom, and once we approached the ocean, the salty sea air, and pungent smell of the seaweed at low tide - which can be both offensive and inviting at the same time.

When we reached Hampton Beach we traveled along coastal Route 1 and took pleasure in the view of beautiful homes, rocky coasts and sandy beaches. Observing the early season beach goers enjoying the day at the ocean - their bodies soaking up the rays of sunshine that frees the winter and spring cold from their bones.

We stopped in Rye for lunch at Petey's - a favorite summer spot for many. Had the best jumbo coconut shrimp with mango chutney, plus Ceasar salads - his with Cajun shrimp and mine with blackened Mahi Mahi. It was a culinary delight! A wonderful way to top off the ride.

Headed home after lunch as we both were becoming a bit road weary on this first journey of the year. It was a relief for our poor tired bones to come off the bike and sit and relax on the back deck. Talking about our beautiful day and how blessed we truly are, and looking forward to another escape in the near future.
