Bar Harbor, Maine - Acadia National Park

Fall Foliage Trip - Bar Harbor, Maine. Our last mini vacation for the year - and fortunately most of the rain held off. I had not been to Bar Harbor for over 30 years and things have changed so much.  My memories were of a very rural, quiet vacation spot, but it has grown immensely into quite the tourist destination. I did not recognize the area at all.

Having said that.....it is still an incredibly beautiful area. Bar Harbor is truly a quaint New England coastal town. Filled with unique shops, wonderful restaurants and views of the harbor that can take your breath away. Walking around to check out the shops and sitting on the waterfront in the sun made for a very enjoyable afternoon. In the evening we went to Testa's restaurant and had the most incredible fish and seafood in a relaxing atmosphere with great service. I cannot say enough about the Grilled Haddock Amandine they serve - will remember that for a very long time.

We took a trip through Acadia National Park on the Park Loop Road in the morning. This 27 mile road travels through the park along the coast a bit and then eventually leads to a road that takes you up to Cadillac Mountain summit - the highest point on the eastern coast. Unfortunately it was misty and cloudy and the summit of Cadillac Mountain was engulfed in fog with the wind whipping through - and no view. All we can say is that we have been to the summit but have no photos to prove this.  We did, however get some great photos along the Loop Road at some of the overlook areas, Sand Beach, Thunder Hole and many other beautiful spots along the way. Worth a trip to Maine for this experience, and if you are a hiker you will find many trails to enjoy in Acadia.

I hope to make this trip again and think summer might be a good time to go in order to take in all the views. Hopefully that little shop will still be there selling the LL Bean Muddy Boots ice cream. If you can find this ice cream you should definitely give it a try!!

The Most Disappointing Halloween Ever

We just experienced our most disappointing Halloween in the 15 years we have been in our home. We received zero trick-or-treaters. Not one moment of joy opening the door to see little ones in costumes as their cute little voices called out "trick-or-treat"! As far back as I can remember Halloween has been a holiday that was fun for children. How could they not enjoy dreaming up a costume and going out to trick or treat for candy. Growing up there were six of us and we spent weeks deciding what we wanted to be and how to come up with the costume. Of course, back then we used what was available in the house to create our vision, and maybe we would get a purchased plastic mask. Then on Halloween night our parents took us out to go from house to house. These Hands

These hands once young and smooth, now carry the scars of time. Some days I gaze upon them, and wonder whose they are. Once the hands of a child, that loved to play in the mud. Never a thought or worry, as to how these hands looked. As years passed priorities changed, and these hands became important. Lotions, potions and painted nails to show off their natural beauty. Then arrived the child raising years, keeping these hands so busy. Carrying babies, then chasing toddlers, playing and enjoying precious moments. Laundry and cleaning, meals to cook, making a house a home. Ensuring that all within the walls, feel safe, secure and loved. Years of working took their toll, slowly these hands transformed. Once smooth and blemish free, small changes began to appear. Now the senior years have arrived, and time has left a trail. As I think of all these hands have done, I welcome every scar, wrinkle and flaw.
