A Job Well Done
Procrastination...we all tend
to do this when it comes to the bigger projects that loom over us. There is
always some reason that it cannot be done; most likely it is because we do not
want to, or there is something much more enjoyable we want to do.
At times, keeping up with the
normal routine chores can overwhelm us when we have a busy schedule with work,
family, and other commitments. To try and take on a project in the midst of the
daily chaos can be a gargantuan task. We know that many of these larger
undertakings must be completed once they are started. There is no doing one
part now and leaving the rest until later.
If it is out of sight, then it
is out of mind. However, some things stare us in the face every day, and
eventually they must be tackled. The hard part is making the decision to start
and taking the first step. If we can turn everything else off and dive in, then
the daunting task does not seem as monumental as we imagined.
We tackled one of our bigger
projects yesterday. Not so much because we wanted to, but because we had purchased
new chairs that forced us into taking it on. Removing the old chairs was quite
the undertaking and clearly not easy for two seniors. However, we managed to
get them out and on the truck.
Our original plan was to take the
old chairs out of the master bedroom and bring in the new, but as we looked at
the carpet our plans changed. If we were going to remove furniture, then we
might as well put the new carpet cleaner to work.
As he vacuumed the carpet, I read
the instructions and set up the cleaner for its maiden run. We were happy to
find that it was easy to use and amazed at how well it cleaned. Two hours from
the start of our project the carpet looked almost as it did the day it was
installed. We opened the windows to expedite drying time and took a must
deserved break for lunch.
After a run to the transfer station
to dispose of the old chairs, we ran a few errands while the carpet dried. Of
course, I was anxious to unbox the new chairs and get them set up, but he
thought he was done for the day. Not so fast shipmate – I will sit in my new
chair tonight!
Fortunately, the new chairs were
much lighter. We were able to bring them in and get them set-up in just over an
hour. I was able to enjoy their comfort as planned.
There is something to be said for
a job well done. Accomplishing a big project feels so good and can boost our
desire to move on to another one we have left on the back burner.
Who knows what will be next?
