Twists and Turns

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is. How you cope with it is what makes the difference." ~ Virginia Satir

As we go through each stage of life, we have visions of how we think they should be with expectations for a perfect, or almost perfect, outcome. What we find out is that very rarely do things go exactly as we imagine or how we may want them to.

The twists and turns in life can throw us a curve that we could not possibly anticipate. The reality of what may lie in front of us is not something that we ever prepared ourselves for. These things happen to others, not to us. We had our life perfectly laid out with hopes for many good things in the years that lie ahead.

When we face new and daunting challenges it may be easier to bury our heads in the sand, and pretend they do not exist; however, this does not make the challenge go away. All it does is postpone the inevitable task of confronting the issue at hand.

When difficult times are thrown in our path the best thing we can do is to stop and try to understand how best to proceed. We need to learn as much as we can to prepare ourselves for what we may encounter along the way. Knowledge is the best tool we can have in our arsenal as we navigate stormy waters.

Even when things can seem a bit overwhelming there are ways to cope. No matter what the situation is we can always get through with patience, memories, and a bit of humor and laughter. Finding something to laugh about can lighten even the heaviest burden.

When we encounter these mountains that are put in our path, we always seem to find the strength to rise to the challenge. What we would have thought impossible becomes possible, and we persevere. When we look at the alternative, in the end, we do what we must for not only ourselves but for our family.

Life's twist and turns can turn our world upside down. However, we are much stronger and more adaptable to what alters our destiny in life than we could ever imagine.
