Acting Our Age Doesn't Have To Appear Old

When we are young we can't wait to grow up; then when we get older we wish we were young again. Society's views on aging do not help. It's as if we should be embarrassed that we are no longer youthful.

All we need to do is observe those around us and we will see people struggling to look or act young; as if by doing so then others will believe they are. The truth is, everyone knows how old we are (or at least can guess), and in the end it can look foolish.

I have never understood why people want to embarrass themselves by dressing too young, or behaving as their children would. Of course it's even more prevalent in the entertainment world where they are led to believe their career is over if they appear or act too "old". Unfortunately, at times they go too far over the line and it's very difficult to watch. Often I feel sorry for them as their insecurities push them to do humiliating things. I also wonder if they have children and the impact it can have on them.

Just because we reach a certain age it doesn't mean we have to dress in frumpy clothing. We can still look fresh, current, and yes even sexy, without trying to appear as if we are twenty-something. We can also have vibrant, fun personalities at any age.

We all have a tendency to believe if we act our age it means we are dull and boring. It doesn't have to be at all. We can dance, laugh and even act silly at times without giving up an ounce of maturity and class. We appear old when we give up on enjoying life. We can act our age and still be lively and fun.

The aging process can be difficult, and we all try to find our way to ease into it. What we need to remember is that if we feel young and vibrant on the inside, then we will maintain that youthful spark without trying to fight a losing battle competing with those who are young.
