Yes - Older Women Still Have Dreams
There are those who believe that dreams and adventures are meant for the young; that when you reach a certain age you are to go quietly into the sunset and leave these things behind. They couldn't be more wrong.
No matter how old we get, we have dreams and desires. As nurturers so many of us spend our lives taking care of others, and in doing so leave our dreams and adventures unfulfilled. It's not that we regret nurturing, as that has its own rewards. However, we do look back at times and think of the dreams we had and the adventures we didn't take, and wonder what might have been.
It is easy to imagine ourselves off on an adventure; seeing things we have never seen before, and meeting interesting people along the way. Welcoming the sunrise in one part of the world, and sunset in another. We can still dream of being a successful singer, songwriter, actress, doctor, scientist or inventor; whatever we dreamt of so many years ago. And we can envision the life that would have been had we taken that path.
The youthful should not discount us just because we are no longer young. They should not believe that we no longer have dreams and desires, or that we don't wish to have a fun filled life. Some things they should know about us women who have reached our mature years; We still dance alone to our favorite old songs when nobody is looking. We dream of old flames from our younger years, and imagine what might have been. We can look at an attractive man and fantasize just as we did as young women. We can get lost in a romance novel and imagine we are the heroine, or the woman in distress being saved. And we still dream the same dreams of adventures we will take some day, even if they do not come to fruition. Because just as when we were young, these dreams keep us youthful, vibrant and alive.
So, my advice to the young women out there - keep dreaming and accomplish your dreams as much as possible. But even if you can't reach them all, hang onto them in your heart. Someday, when you reach your mature years, they will still give you hope of what might be and make you feel vibrant and alive.
