Where are the Good Paying Jobs?

Before I go any further I want to say this is not a politically motivated blog. I believe in keeping my political (and religious) beliefs to myself. This comes from being one of the hundreds of thousands of people that are actively looking for work. If you have been searching for employment you know how frustrating it can be. Most employers do not even want to see you walk in the door any longer. You have to apply online (if you are fortunate you have a computer at home), and at best it is usually tedious and time consuming. You never know if a live person will actually look at your application or resume, and chances are you will never even get a "thanks, but no thanks". How can they even figure out who they want to see out of the hundreds of applicants they must get?

I keep hearing on the news about all the "new" jobs created each month, and our government telling us the economy is improving. What are they talking about?? I think they are out of touch with reality, and playing a game of smoke and mirrors to try and take people's attention away from what is truly happening.

Too many major American companies have chosen to produce in other countries as they can pay a much lower wage. I don't know exactly how many manufacturing and technology jobs we have lost over the past thirty plus years, but it is easy to see what is not here just by taking a look around. We have become a country with a high number of service industry jobs, a country full of mega malls and plazas. Retail employment is abundant, but most of it is low paying and part-time. Even if it is full-time a family cannot be supported by one low paying retail job. Benefits are minimal, if they have them at all, and most employees cannot afford to take them.

Companies need to start being better employers and realizing their success is tied directly to their employees. If they treat employees well, give them a decent wage and fair benefits, they will receive dedication and loyalty from employees. What is missing all the way around is respect and loyalty. Years ago our parents could be with a company for their entire career, and receive a decent retirement. Not what we see today at all.

As a country we need to work together to ensure we have good jobs and a strong work force. If given the chance I do believe that the majority of people want to work. What we do gives us purpose each day, and doing a good job makes us proud.

We should not have so many people out of work, who have lost hope of ever making a decent living again. We need to bring back the manufacturing and technology jobs where we can make enough to support our families. We need to have respect for one another and also loyalty to one another. If we can do this then everyone wins in the end; employers make a profit and employees can support their families. What could be better than this?
