The Freedom to Accept Your Natural Glow
As a young woman I began to use makeup like all the other girls I knew. We felt so grown up and just knew it made us beautiful like the models we had seen. We believed what the magazines told us, and strived for that perfect look that we saw stare back at us from the pages. Unfortunately we were unaware that the magazines touched up any imperfections that these young women might have so attaining that look was impossible. We still tried to get there and our self esteem dropped when we could not.
Through my teen years, and into adulthood, I could not imagine leaving home without putting on my makeup. I just knew that I must look terrible without it and feared having anyone see me that way. Like others I tried so many of the latest and greatest products that were sure to help you attain that "perfect" look. So hard to believe that even as an adult we can be convinced we are not beautiful without altering what we were given.
I'm not quite sure when It happened, but sometime over the last couple of years the need to apply makeup on a daily basis has disappeared from my life. I'm sure that some of it had to do with the fact that I am self employed and don't go out to an office every day. My daily routine has changed and the longer I went without doing this task, the easier it became not to do it. After a while I realized that nobody looked at me differently because I was not wearing makeup. It was my own vision of myself that was skewed.
I'm not saying that makeup cannot enhance your natural beauty, but it should only enhance and not alter what you have. I do still wear it occasionally on special occasions, but I no longer feel it is a necessity. What became clear is the fact that everyone has their own natural beauty which gives you a glow from within if you believe in yourself.
Part of this revelation has been a process of accepting who I am and trying to repair my own damage to my self esteem. We women need to be kinder to ourselves and stop letting the media determine how we should feel about who we are and how we look. We need to stop comparing to the unattainable and realize we are all beautiful in our own way.
If you make the journey and get to where you have the freedom to accept your natural glow, it can be life changing. Your self esteem will begin to soar once gain as it did when you were a child.
