Listen for the Message

Whether you believe or not, all of us have had those moments when we can't find a reasonable explanation for things that happen in our lives. That one thing that keeps popping up in your face that you finally realize is a message - a message trying to guide you in a certain direction. You may not know why, but perhaps it's trying to keep you from harm, bring someone to help you, or send you to lift up someone in need.

If we are open, and will listen, these messages can be precious gifts not only to us, but to others also. A chance meeting that brings people together at just the moment it's needed. The stranger that strikes up a conversation with us on a difficult day, with a message and smile that lifts us up, and changes the trajectory of our day. It can also be as simple as a song on the radio, the beautiful call of the birds or a gentle breeze blowing in our face which can make us stop for a moment or two. And in those brief moments our thought process can be redirected to more positive things.

I do believe there are signs given to us, and have experienced it many times in my life. There are those who say they are nothing more than coincidences, and they have a right to their opinions, but I choose to remain open to the infinite possibilities of these twists and turns of daily life. That quiet whisper in my ear, or the many wonderful strangers who have crossed my path over the years, all have carried lessons that were needed at a very specific time. It is a gift to receive guidance from these messengers.

Sometimes you may feel the messenger is trying to keep you from doing something that you think will be a good thing. However, if you look back and think about it, you probably were saved from making a mistake. There is always a lesson to be learned if we are open.

As the old saying goes, "God works in mysterious ways". You may not agree, or believe, but I think he is always watching out for us. Even if you are a non-believer, the link below to the story from the CBS News series, A More Perfect Union, will certainly warm your heart and make you think.
