Take Time to Enjoy Summer
It seems like early spring in New England was too wet, too cold, and lasted far too long. Now that we are finally experiencing sunnier days and warmer temperatures, our minds turn to what lies ahead for summer.
Although we will have several months of beautiful weather, it always seems to go by far too quickly. So many things that we want to do and so little time to fit them in. In the midst of making plans, we can lose sight of the fun.
Some activities definitely need planning when it comes to gathering family and friends; waiting to the last minute eliminates those who have already filled their schedule. Even when we make arrangements in advance, there will always be a few who are not available.
As the years go by, I have come to realize that we are better off when we allow more spontaneity into our life. Not everything that we do needs to have an itinerary. Some of the best times we have experienced, have been when we dropped what we felt was necessary and taken advantage of an opportunity that came our way.
If deep in your heart and soul you need a rejuvenation day, take it. If a friend calls out of the blue and wants to get a cup of coffee...go. When the sun rises, and it is a beautiful day for the beach, pack everyone in the car and go. Take a walk and breathe in the fresh air and sounds of nature.
Make all your summer plans for the gatherings you want to create, but don't let the sporadic moments pass you by. Soak up the sun, relax in the shade, read a book, have that cup of coffee, lie on the beach, or find a quiet spot and sit in silence. Whatever you do, take time to enjoy summer. The precious memories made will be with you for the rest of your life.
