A Diverse and Unique World

  • Compassion: Sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.
  •  Understanding: Sympathetically aware of other people's feelings; tolerant and forgiving.
  •  Tolerance: The ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with.
  •  Acceptance: The quality or state of being accepted; the act of accepting something or someone.
Although we have our differences, we all should expect these values to be practiced when dealing with one another. It's called common decency and respect for others, and these should not be compromised for any reason.

In our ever-changing world we need to take time to step back, acknowledge, and learn to accept our differences. Just because we have contrasting lifestyles or opinions, it doesn't give us the right to criticize one another. We can live in harmony if we learn to be accepting, and if we mind our own business.

Somehow over the last several decades, people have decided they can be critical and vocal if they don't agree with another's choice of lifestyle or opinion. There appears to be no filter before they open their mouth to speak. Yet, they will be quick to cry foul when they are the ones being verbally attacked.

Growing up we were taught that if we didn't have anything nice to say, then we should say nothing at all. Proper etiquette seems to have gone out the window along with respect and compassion for others.

We all want the same things; family, love, compassion and a connection to other humans. We want to be accepted as members of our communities, our country and within the world. So simple, and yet so difficult for some to see.

If we try to imagine a world where everyone was the same, it creates a very bland and boring vision. What would we even have to talk about that would be of interest to anyone?

It's our diversity and uniqueness that makes life vibrant and interesting. Even if we have a difference in opinion, at least the conversations are lively and challenge our minds.

We need to stop being critical of one another and celebrate what a fascinating species we humans are.
