Taking Time To Unwind

Like most people today, I spend the majority of my time doing the things that "need" to be done. The reality is that many of these tasks could wait, and everyone around me would enjoy my company more if I took time to unwind.

For me there are a few things that I do that bring peace and solitude to my soul. When I write it clears my mind and brings me to places where I can let everything else retreat into the background. Unfortunately through the busy summer I have not had the luxury of taking much time for this. It has been another "chore" and not the creative release I cherish.

Another favorite way to unwind is when I am baking. I had the pleasure of doing this the last two days and made blonde brownies and an apple pie. I am always amazed by how peaceful I feel when I am creating something in the kitchen. With my hands busy my mind relaxes and creative thoughts move in and replace worries that may have been there. Plus the added bonus is enjoying these delicious treats!

Believe it or not I also find great satisfaction in accomplishing a chore that I have put off. Nothing better than being able to look at a clean refrigerator or decluttered closet. I may be physically tired when I am done, but it is a good tired that relaxes me.

Eventually I hope to spend more time taking photographs of my favorite subject: Mother Nature. To have the time to travel the back roads, and stop whenever the scenery speaks to me, will be such a joy. The quiet and solitude in photography is a gift. We don't always slow down enough to see the beauty around us and embrace it.

All of these are my way to unwind. When I take the time and allow myself to enjoy them, I am a better person. Something I need to remember.

Find your way to unwind and allow yourself the time to do it. If you are happy and relaxed, then those around you will be too.
