Circumstances and Change
In our adult lives we will find our circumstances changing many times based on what stage of life we are in. Events that change circumstances include marriage, having children, career obstacles or health issues.
We all have a tendency to get
very comfortable with the status quo in our daily lives. Because of this
comfort level we may not be conscientiously aware when are teetering on the
precipice of collapse. This lack of recognition can leave us feeling unsettled
and unable to move towards potentially positive changes. It can be difficult to
see when we have reached the end of our purpose in different areas of our
lives. If we cannot stop long enough to analyze where we are and what is
causing our lives to feel out of control, then we cannot contemplate what needs
to change.
There are times that we fight
change out of fear of the unknown. What if where we are headed is not an
improvement from where we are now? What if we can’t adapt? What if we fail? All
legitimate fears that can be a bit illogical. Our imaginations tend to run to
the worst case scenario.
With work we settle into the
routine of our position and get comfortable, and everything is good at least
for a time. We may not even be aware when there is a turning point and we are
no longer truly happy or content with what we are doing. Eventually, something
will happen to open our eyes and we are forced to entertain the thought of
making a change.
In our personal lives there are
many factors that change the circumstances we are faced with on a daily basis.
It may be our children, our parents or health issues that change our
perspective and priorities. External forces that we had previously handled with
ease can become a burden when our private life is altered. Although we may have
to let go of some things we may not necessarily want to, we will ultimately make changes that
best suit the needs of our families.
Circumstances and change…as the
old saying goes, “nothing lasts forever”. We need to be more in tune to
recognizing when circumstances in our lives require us to re-evaluate our
priorities and make the changes necessary to bring life back into balance.
