Today's Words of Wisdom
I have been thinking a lot lately about what words of wisdom I want to impart upon my children and grandchildren. After all, reaching the latter part of my 50's has made me pause and reflect on what message I want to give them. So......below is the list I have started and want to share with them:
- Love your children, and let them know how important they are to the family no matter what happens. As I have always told my girls, I may not always like what you do, but I will always love you.
- Encourage your children to learn as much as they possibly can - with knowledge you can do anything.
- Never tell them they can't or that is what they will learn to tell themselves.
- Encourage them to try - even if they are not successful at something at least they tried.
- Teach your children to have respect for themselves and others, and to speak with intelligence and kindness. When you do so it will be returned to you.
- Find out what your passion is and try to make it your life's work. If you can do this it will never feel like work.
- Never - ever - give up on a dream or let others tell you that it is impossible. Our dreams give us hope and inspiration.
- Don't be afraid of hard work, and make sure you can always take care of yourself.
- Have a kind heart and try to give back in some way.
- Try to never let words leave your mouth when you are angry. Once they are said you can never take them back.
- Love yourself and be happy with who you are before you enter a relationship.
- In a relationship the other person should enhance your life, not make your life harder, take from you, or make you feel bad about yourself.
- Shut off the TV, computer, cell phone, etc. and do things together as a family without interruption. Build a strong family bond as we all need one.
- Most of life is routine, with bits of fun sprinkled along the way.
